Description of site:

Lockerbie, Scotland

 
Site characteristic: 

  • Biomass power plant is the largest in Scotland and was built by order of EON UK
  • Operation of the power plant located in a rural environment for the utilization of biomass (wood chips) collected from the local wood industry is regulated by the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA)
  • Drainage system for surface water was developed based on the sustainable drainage systems (SUDS) guidelines

Planning Basis:

  • The emissions are defined by the Waste Incineration Directive and the Large Combustion Plant Directive which is regulated by the the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA)

 


Project description:

  • Steam generator, flue gas cleaning system and fuel supply were installed by Kvaerner Power OY
  • Siemens AG delivered and erected the water-steam circuit, power generation, electrical and I&C engineering, all supply and disposal systems, and all construction services
  • Envi Con engineered the entire turbine building for Siemens, including all piping and main components as well as all construction and infrastructure services
  • Turbine type SST-800 is a single-casing construction with axial exhaust flow and regulated extraction. It is designed for use between 50 and 150 MW and directly drives the synchronous generator
  • Steven’s Croft won the Scottish Green Energy Awards 2007 prize as the best project in the area of renewable energies

 


Scope of Services:

The biomass power plant is the largest in Scotland and was built by order of EON UK. The steam generator, flue gas cleaning system and fuel supply were installed by Kvaerner Power OY. Siemens AG (head of consortium) delivered and erected/installed the water-steam circuit, power generation, electrical and I&C engineering, all supply and disposal systems, and all construction services including all solid construction services for the consortium partner.

Envi Con engineered the entire turbine building for Siemens, including all piping and main components as well as all construction and infrastructure services. This included the necessary specifications, invitations to tender and contract award support.The fluidized bed boiler supplies a Siemens industrial steam turbine type SST-800 with live steam. The turbine type SST-800 is a single-casing construction with axial exhaust flow and regulated extraction. It is designed for use between 50 and 150 MW and directly drives the synchronous generator. Steven’s Croft won the Scottish Green Energy Awards 2007 prize as the best project in the area of renewable energies.
