Description of site:

Hamm-Uentrop, Germany

Site characteristic:

  • Rural, near the city of Hamm
  • In close proximity to the existing RWE Westfalen power plant site, made up of units A, B and C (together 320 MW)

Particularities/constraints:

  • supply and disposal via road, water (Datteln-Hamm Canal) and rail possible
  • Integration of the new facilities into an existing power plant; replacement for Units A and B which were decommissioned in 2011
  • No planning criteria beyond the usual scope (greenfield / new construction, plant expansion / development, retrofitting)
  • New construction with integration into an existing power plant site
  • Use/ expansion of existing infrastructure (e.g., coal conveying facilities)

Project description:

  • At its Westphalia power plant located in Hamm (up to now Units A and B, each with 152 MW, and Unit C with 284 MW), RWE Power AG erected a new twin unit facility with a gross output of approx. 2 x 800 MW
  • The twin-unit facility replaces Units A and B, which were permanently disconnected from the grid in February 2011
  • An essential engineering design basis is the achievement of high net efficiency for the plant (approx. 46%) with high availability of the system and capability of the units to operate in the basic and medium load range

Scope of services:

General engineering with the following service phases (EPCM):

  • EPCM
  • Preliminary engineering
  • Completion of approval documents and preliminary execution planning
  • Project execution planning and general engineering

This includes the following subservices:

  • Coordination of all engineering activities
  • Systems design and work in the areas of process engineering, component engineering, layout planning, construction engineering, electrical and I&C engineering
  • Development of technical and commercial Concepts
  • Preparation of tenders, comparison of technical offers for approx. 70 lots
  • Scheduling
  • Construction site setup planning
  • Preliminary and detailed engineering for HP, MP and LP piping systems
  • Structural planning for solid and steel construction
  • Interface coordination and supervision of trial operation and commissioning support on the construction site
  • Integration into the existing facilities
